Types of Assignments To Expect

• WebWork Assignments - Each week, there are 20 questions to answer for the homework assessments. Your lowest homework score will be dropped at the end of the term.

• Midterms - There are two midterms.

• Final Exam - The final exam consists of all written response questions, just like the midterms.
  

Advice/Study Tips

• Compared to MATH 100, the homework assignments are way more relevant and necessary to study. I recommend studying homework questions in addition to textbook questions for exams.

• Although the homework assignments are useful preparation, they can be extremely frustrating to do. I recommend scouting Piazza and collecting as many hints as possible to finish the homework and saving PDFs of homework assignments as study material for exam preparation.

• While the assigned textbook (CLP-2) for this course is very useful, I also recommend using the textbook Calculus Early Transcendentals to supplement your learning. The examples are extremely helpful and go into even more detail than the CLP-2 textbook.
  

• Don't spend more than 10 minutes stuck on a homework question. You will waste time and beat yourself up for being unproductive. Ask Piazza and ask your friends. While you wait for a response, work on a different subject instead.
  

• Start preparation for the midterms and finals as early as possible. There are lots of practice questions for MATH 101 in terms of practise exams that you need to grind through to develop muscle memory of the formulas since there is no formula sheet allowed.

• Even if you got the right answer, check the solutions section of the textbook to ensure that you didn't miss any important details while solving the problem. This is good practice in case you stumble upon questions that you did incorrectly.
  

• Practice explaining mathematical concepts without algebraic calculations. Sometimes these will be expected of you on exams.

• Don't be discouraged if you find the practise midterms and finals very difficult. You will most likely do better if you watch tutorials or work through textbook examples of the concepts and then immediately work on practice problems.
  

• Create a formula sheet early on in the course to reference while completing homework assignments. Make sure to write down conditions for when certain tests can be used for the sequences and series portion of the course.

• Study every concept in as much detail as you can. Since the midterms test a limited amount of topics and the final exam does not test you on every topic, make sure to have strong muscle memory of each concept to save time and gain marks on an exam.
