Types of Assignments To Expect
Pre-labs: Pre-labs are videos that are released each week with an accompanying set of questions that can be answered through searching the internet, reviewing the lab manuals, and reviewing the lecture notes.
Laboratory Prep Course: All BMEG 102 students are required to take a safety training course so that students are proficient in safely using laboratory equipment.
Module Lab Submissions: Although the requirements vary by module, these are the major projects your groups will be working on. They usually include a results section, a discussion section, graphs, tables, an appendix, and a conclusion section.
Final Module Design Project: For the final module design project, your group can select Biomaterials and Biomechanics, Signals & Systems, Cellular Bioengineering, or Bioinformatics. Your group will be given a task card report the week before the project is due.
Advice/Study Tips
Selections for final module design projects are competitive. Be sure to select your project ASAP before other groups decide to select one.
Always cite references in Vancouver style. It's a required component of this course.
Always have someone or everyone in your group proofread lab submissions for grammatical errors, ambiguities in communication, and sufficient responses for the results and discussion sections.
Always format your documents in a professional format. There should be headings, subheadings, tables and graphs with descriptions, and a bibliography.
When performing calculations in your lab documents, always make sure to explain them or include a heading or minor description.
Before submitting the lab documents, inspect the lab manual instructions and the rubric while checking whether your submission satisfies all of the criteria.
If you are confused about a certain aspect of the module lab submissions, ask the TAs and the instructor questions and then re-schedule another meeting with your group while waiting for a response.
